The municipalities facing the Pearl River Delta, recently named Greater Bay Area (GBA), represent one of the fastest urban developing areas in the world.
Its strategic positioning amidst globalizing networks invites architects and urbanists to question how megacities are truly capable of deforming landscapes, communities, and economies, nimbly surpassing spatial memories. The exhibition selected 3 sites within the GBA (the Kingway Brewery, the previous Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, and the Sugar Factory located in Jiangmen), arranged them into 9 squares of 200×200 meters and created a continuous section. It develops how a continuous urban landscape, where tabula rasa is avoided, and the future embeds memories. Similarly an archaeological excavation, GBA UNINTERRUPTED solicits the coexisting of heterogeneous urban layers instead of uncontrolled destruction and promotes large-scale and multi-level connections without forgetting local contingencies.
